Cupping And Other Treatments
What Is Cupping And What Does It Do?
Cupping is a Traditional Chinese therapy, which has been used for thousands of years. The cups (most used on the back and shoulders) increase the flow of qi and blood to the area. The cups promote healing by relaxing the muscles, stimulating the meridians and acupuncture points. Cups frequently will leave circular bruises on the skin but these will not be painful and will clear after a few days.
Moxibustion (Moxa)
Refers to the warming or heating of individual acupuncture points or regions of the body by burning the herb Artemisia (commonly known as Mugwort) close to or on the inserted needle. The heat can penetrate deeply into the muscles and essentially strengthens the actions of the needles. By drawing more Qi and Blood into the area, Moxa can greatly aid the healing process.
Tu-ina - Chinese Massage
Tuina is a traditional Chinese massage that works similarly to deep tissue or sports massage. It can be performed either with oil or with a towel covering the body. Tuina is often used alongside acupuncture to treat larger areas of muscle and promote healing by improving the flow of qi and blood throughout the body. It can be particularly effective for targeting specific areas such as the shoulders, neck, or back, helping to relieve tension, alleviate pain, and support overall well-being. This combination of therapies provides a powerful approach to restoring balance and encouraging faster recovery. Acupressure is like acupuncture but without the needle. I use this often in the treatment, I may press on various points around the body to get a therapeutic response.
